Pessimism is like a trap that creates walls between you and where you want to be in life. It alters what you see through your inner eyes and prevents you from being motivated. I have put together 5 keys that can help you overcome pessimism, stay motivated to recognise and embrace possibilities and opportunities around you.

  • Adopt an attitude of gratitude.

There’s always something and someone in your life to be grateful for. When you miss this concept, you take your blessings for granted like waking up alive and being able to see the beauty of the sunshine. You take for granted the people you are blessed with in your life (spouse, children, friends, neighbours). Counting your blessings will help you appreciate the loving Father God is to you. A grateful spirit is a positive boost to your energy that pessimism cannot withstand.

  • Be anxious for nothing.

Worry is another trap that hinders your ability to focus on getting solution. It does that by filling you up with fear and anxiety. “Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God, and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Phil. 4:6-7. God is able to inspire ideas that will bring solution to those overwhelming problems when you learn to turn them over to Him.

  • Think and talk like an optimist

To think like an optimist, you have to deliberately empty yourself of negative thoughts. Here’s a small mind exercise to help. Imagine yourself with a shovel, shoveling every of your negative thoughts into a sac. When you’re done with this, tie it up and dump it in the ocean. You should sense a lightness in your mind as the weight of negativity leaves you. Optimist also speak kindly to themselves with uplifting words. They encourage and appreciate themselves after a job well done even when others don’t acknowledge them. Overcome that feeling of bitterness when you’re not recognised. Optimist don’t only talk positively, they also feel positively about life and every situation. They know that its always darkest before dawn, for that they always have a happy spirit.

  • Pay attention to your influencer.

If you find yourself struggling with pessimism, then its logical to avoid people of like minds. Depressed and frustrated people will always pull you down with their negativity. Be among people who would open you to fresh inspiration to help you dream big.

  • Begin your day on a positive note.

Start with a heart of gratitude. Read or listen to something inspiring, don’t begin your day listening to news around the world. How you begin the day sets the tone for either a positive or a negative day.

  • Take care of yourself.

Your mindset will always reflect how much attention you give to yourself. You have one life, fix it by paying attention to those things that bring the best out of you and don’t feel guilty about it. Take care of your spirit, mind and body so you can approach life with a sense of wholeness.
